Dan Shelby

Dan Shelby is a lifelong athlete who has been training in strongman since winter 2021. Despite being new to the sport I have enjoyed some success in competitions including podium placements and an invitation to strongman nationals in June 2023.  My primary fitness goal is to live a long, healthy life with a body that looks good and is prepared for a wide variety of tasks. I believe in functional fitness, meaning what we do in the gym should also prepare us for activities outside of the gym whether that is hiking, rock climbing, snowboarding, surfing, carrying groceries, helping your buddy move a couch, roughhousing with kids in your family, etc.  I train in strongman because it uses unconventional implements in different body positions which prepares me for a wide variety of physical activities. I love teaching people new skills and I truly believe that anyone can do strongman. You don’t have to be competing or training at a high level to enjoy strongman and its benefits. In my experience, people find out that they are much stronger than they thought after only a few training sessions.

If you see me in the gym feel free to strike up a conversation!  I am proficient in a wide range of other training modalities that include powerlifting, olympic lifting, crossfit, yoga, mixed martial arts, lap swimming, running, and cycling.  I love nerding out about nutrition, supplements, fasting, training protocols, body optimization, and pretty much anything fitness related.
